| Marching Colts |
Grades 9-12
Fall Semester |
This
fall semester course is a two-hour block that meets
daily, zero and first periods. The Colt Band performs at all home and
select
away football games, as well as supports various school and community
activities.
Scheduled Monday night rehearsals are mandatory and considered part of
the grade requirements. Students will receive 1 credit. Students are
required
to obtain certain parts of their uniform, which is outlined in the Band
Handbook. Prerequisite: Instructor Approval. |
| Pep Band |
Grades 9-12
Fall Semester |
This
is a fall semester course for
students who have a working knowledge of a band instrument. There will
intensive training in the areas of marching & maneuvering
execution,
as well as improved musicianship. Students will be exposed to the
skills
and techniques necessary for positions in the Marching Colts. This band
will have opportunities to perform during football season and parades.
Some activities require participation outside of the school day.
Students
are required to obtain certain parts of their uniform, which is
outlined
in the Band Handbook. |
| Honor Band |
Grades 9-12
Spring Semester |
Students
are selected for this band
by audition. This group perfoms the advanced level of concert band
music.
Prerequisite: Audition and director approval. |
| Concert Band |
Grades 9-12
Spring Semester |
This
ensemble is open to students
who have a working knowledge of a band instrument. Students in the
Honor
Band may also participate in the Concert Band. Prerequisite: working
knowledge
of band instrument and director approval. |
| Jazz Band |
Grades 10-12
Semester
or Year |
This
class explores the basic elements
of jazz through performance and theory. Students must demonstrate an
above-average
ability level for admission to this class. Prerequisite: Audition and
director
approval. |
| Show Band |
Grades 10-12
Year |
This
is a year-long course for students
who have director approval. It is a practical experience in today's
dance
and pop-style music. This group has many performances, some of which
include
late evening dances. Prerequisite: Audition and director approval. |
| Beginning
Guitar and Keyboard |
Grades 9-12
Semester
or Year |
This
course shall offer students beginning
musical skills in note reading, identifying music symbols and
vocabulary,
learning basic chords and harmony, and performance experience through
instruction
on guitar and/or keyboard playing. |
| Small
Instrumental Ensemble |
Grades 10-12
Semester
or Year |
Students
in this class are given the opportunity to improve
their instrumental music skills in the setting of a small ensemble -
woodwind,
brass and orchestra strings. Prerequisite: Director approval. |
